Chinese netizens celebrate Arshad’s gold
Chinese viewers expressed their excitement and respect for their “Ba Tie” or “Pakistani Iron Brother” on various social media platforms, celebrating Nadeem’s achievement.
The Chinese Embassy posted on X, “Warmest congratulations to our Pakistani brothers and sisters on Arshad Nadeem winning Pakistan’s first gold medal at the Olympics in 40 years and setting a new Olympic record in men’s javelin in Paris.”
Furthermore, a commentator from China Central Television enthusiastically highlighted Nadeem’s incredible throw, and social media was flooded with comments like, “He has given wings to the javelin” and “Incredible! He’s a hero!” with others exclaiming, “92.97 meters! Bravo! Congrats Iron Brother! First gold! NEW OLYMPIC RECORD!”
Additionally, on Weibo, China’s version of X, a trending tag titled “Nadeem surprises his coach’s sunglasses off” emerged, gaining tens of millions of views. One user humorously noted, “OMG the coach’s reaction is adorable; he couldn’t believe his eyes!”
Since making its Olympic debut at the London Games in 1948, Pakistan has won 11 medals over 76 years. However, the country last secured a gold medal 40 years ago at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, where the men’s field hockey team took the top prize, as reported by CEN.
Consequently, Arshad Nadeem’s historic victory in the javelin throw at the Paris Olympics ends Pakistan’s 40-year drought for a gold medal, marking a significant moment in the nation’s Olympic history.
Nadeem’s throw broke the previous Olympic record of 90.57 meters, set by Andreas Thorkildsen of the Netherlands at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated Nadeem on social media, stating, “You’ve made the whole nation proud, young man.”
