Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, acknowledged the crucial role of Chinese investment and financial aid in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy during tough times, according to a statement from the ministry.
During a meeting with senior government officials, Iqbal emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing cooperation across sectors and formulating an action plan to strengthen economic ties with China.
He praised the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a model of shared growth and modernization between the two nations. Launched in 2013, CPEC is part of the Belt and Road Initiative, linking Gwadar Port with China’s Xinjiang region. Initially focused on energy, transport, and industry, CPEC now includes agriculture and livelihood development.
Iqbal stressed the importance of collaboration among various ministries to fully realize CPEC’s potential and urged greater engagement with the Chinese private sector to highlight Pakistan’s business opportunities.
The minister also highlighted the need for progress in priority sectors, including infrastructure, IT, agriculture, industrial cooperation, education, healthcare, water, energy, and artificial intelligence.
