Chinese FM calls for enhanced cooperation with Nauru as he held a meeting with Nauruan counterpart, Lionel Aingimea.
China is eager to enhance collaboration with Nauru across multiple sectors, such as agriculture, fisheries, sports, marine development, climate change mitigation, and capacity building, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on Wednesday.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made these remarks during a meeting with Nauruan Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Lionel Aingimea. Aingimea was visiting China to attend the inauguration ceremony of Nauru’s embassy in China.
Since the restoration of diplomatic ties between China and Nauru, both nations have strengthened mutual trust and support. Practical cooperation has expanded significantly, yielding real benefits for the people of Nauru, Wang highlighted.
China values Nauru’s steadfast commitment to the one-China policy and trusts that Nauru will continue supporting China’s efforts to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity, reinforcing the political basis of their bilateral relationship, Wang said.
Extending congratulations on the forthcoming official opening of Nauru’s embassy in China, Wang emphasized China’s readiness to facilitate and assist in the embassy’s smooth operation.
Aingimea expressed Nauru’s gratitude for China’s substantial support in infrastructure development and socio-economic progress, which has contributed to the country’s improved livelihoods and sustainable growth.
Reaffirming Nauru’s unwavering commitment to the one-China principle, Aingimea conveyed his hopes for broader cooperation in diverse fields and further advancement of bilateral relations.
