Chinese FM calls for enhanced cooperation with Brazil during a meeting with special advisor to the Brazilian president.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s commitment to advancing cooperation with Brazil across multiple sectors during a meeting with Celso Amorim, special advisor to the Brazilian president, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
Wang, who is also a member of the Communist Party of China’s Political Bureau, highlighted the importance of President Xi Jinping’s historic visit to Brazil last year. He noted that the visit resulted in key agreements between Xi and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, reinforcing the strategic significance of China-Brazil relations.
He further emphasized that aligning the Belt and Road Initiative with Brazil’s national development strategies has significantly boosted bilateral cooperation. As two influential global players and key representatives of the Global South, China and Brazil have maintained a strong strategic partnership amid global uncertainties, contributing to world peace, stability, and development.
China is committed to working closely with Brazil to implement the agreements made by the two leaders. Wang stressed the need to enhance cooperation, uphold multilateralism, reinforce the role of the United Nations, and safeguard the rights and interests of Global South nations.
Amorim echoed these sentiments, describing President Xi’s visit to Brazil as a milestone in bilateral relations that strengthened the friendship between the two countries. He emphasized that the visit would further deepen practical cooperation and accelerate the implementation of the leaders’ agreements.
Brazil, he said, is eager to collaborate with China in building a fairer and more sustainable shared future, while also working together to uphold international justice.
Both sides expressed their intention to enhance coordination within the BRICS framework and strengthen ties between China and Latin America. They also acknowledged the contributions of the “Friends of Peace” platform and pledged to continue efforts toward a political resolution of the Ukraine crisis.
