Chinese FM Wang Yi calls for dialogue and peace in Ukraine crisis while speaking at a session of Munich Security Conference.
China hopes that all relevant parties and stakeholders involved in the Ukraine crisis will participate in the peace talks process at an appropriate time and seek a political resolution through dialogue and consultation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on Friday.
Speaking at the “China in the World” session of the Munich Security Conference, Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, reiterated China’s commitment to resolving global disputes through diplomatic means, emphasizing that this principle applies to the Ukraine crisis as well.
Wang highlighted that China neither caused the Ukraine crisis nor is a direct party to it. However, from the outset, China has not remained indifferent or sought to exploit the situation. Since the crisis began, China has consistently called for a resolution through dialogue and consultation.
China’s stance is rooted in the four key principles outlined by President Xi Jinping, which serve as the foundation of its position. These principles include respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations, upholding the UN Charter, acknowledging the legitimate security concerns of all parties, and supporting all efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution.
Following these guiding principles, China has been actively involved in diplomatic mediation efforts. Along with Brazil and other Global South countries, it has launched the “Friends of Peace” initiative to facilitate dialogue and promote peace.
The unfolding developments have demonstrated that China’s approach is objective, fair, and pragmatic, reflecting a broad international consensus, Wang noted.
Emphasizing that negotiations are the only path to conflict resolution, Wang expressed China’s support for all peace efforts, including the recent consensus on peace talks between the United States and Russia.
Since the conflict is taking place in Europe, Wang underscored the importance of European nations playing an active role in promoting peace. He urged Europe to address the root causes of the crisis and work toward a balanced, effective, and sustainable security framework to ensure long-term regional stability.
