Chinese FM advocates respect for sovereignty in Middle East as he met with Iranian counterpart in Beijing.
China emphasized the need for the global community to respect Middle Eastern countries’ sovereignty, territorial integrity, legitimate concerns, independent choices, and historical and cultural traditions.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed these views during discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi in Beijing.
Wang, who also serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stated that the Middle East belongs to its people. He highlighted that it should not serve as a stage for major-power competition or fall victim to geopolitical conflicts involving nations outside the region.
To achieve stability in the region, Wang identified urgent steps, including an immediate ceasefire, cessation of violence, addressing the humanitarian crisis, pursuing political solutions, and resuming dialogue and negotiation processes.
Wang urged all parties to contribute constructively to regional peace and stability, avoid imposing their will, refrain from criticizing or pressuring Middle Eastern countries, and resist using sanctions, force, or provocation to escalate conflicts.
China, as a close ally of Middle Eastern nations, has consistently supported their efforts to independently determine development paths, resolve disputes through dialogue, safeguard sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and oppose external interference, Wang reiterated.
