Chinese experts plan to introduce new variety of crops in Pakistan including sesame and dragon fruit.
Chinese agricultural experts have shown strong interest in introducing and experimenting with new sesame and dragon fruit varieties in Pakistan to enhance agricultural diversity and increase productivity.
This interest emerged during a meeting between Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, Chinese agricultural experts, and representatives from Hitech Private Limited. The discussion centered on strengthening agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and China.
A key focus of the talks was boosting cotton productivity. A pilot project is set to be launched in the Multan and Bahawalpur divisions, with China providing 70% of the funding and Pakistan covering the remaining 30%.
The initiative will feature AI-powered weather stations, the development of improved cotton seed varieties, and the application of drone technology for pest control to modernize cotton farming.
Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain expressed gratitude for the support of Chinese experts and stressed the importance of incorporating advanced technologies such as AI-driven solutions and biotechnology to improve Pakistan’s food security and agricultural output.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to enhancing research collaborations and expediting the execution of joint agricultural initiatives, fostering a more resilient and productive farming industry in Pakistan.
