Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong emphasized the significance of education in fostering bilateral cooperation on Friday.
During his visit to the University of Karachi (KU) with a delegation, Ambassador Zaidong commended the Chinese language teaching efforts at the Confucius Institute.
He acknowledged Pakistan’s rapidly growing IT sector and highlighted KU’s critical role in developing talent that supports both local and international business success.
The Chinese delegation, led by Ambassador Zaidong, met with KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and other officials. Dr. Iraqi noted the long-standing partnership between KU and Sichuan Normal University, which has been essential in running the Confucius Institute on the campus.
Dr. Iraqi also emphasized the importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for Pakistan’s economic growth, affirming that despite internal challenges, both governments are dedicated to its continued success.
Ambassador Zaidong praised the university’s efforts in strengthening Pak-China relations, particularly recognizing Dr. Iraqi and Professor Dr. Muhammad Nasiruddin Khan, the Pakistani Director of the Confucius Institute, for their contributions to its development.
He also highlighted KU’s large student population of around 50,000, noting that such numbers are rare globally, and underscored the essential role of education in a nation’s progress.
Ambassador Zaidong reiterated China’s commitment to supporting KU’s advancement, offering scholarships and further assistance, particularly in IT, artificial intelligence, and agriculture. He also mentioned that during Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s visit to China, both countries agreed to deepen educational cooperation, focusing on developing skilled talent in key industries.
The ambassador commended the resilience of the Confucius Institute at KU, which has continued its mission of promoting Chinese language and culture in Pakistan despite the 2022 terrorist attack.
