Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met with a delegation of Chinese investors led by Mr. Wan Xiaowu, Chairman of the Belt and Road (B&R) Group, on Tuesday, where he expressed his support for facilitating private Chinese investment in the city. The meeting included assistance from Minister of Planning and Development and Energy Nasir Shah, Minister of Local Government Saeed Ghani, Chairman of Planning and Development Najam Shah, and Secretary to the Chief Minister Raheem Shaikh.
The Chief Minister stated that his government is eager to welcome both public and private Chinese companies to invest directly in projects of their choice or to engage in Public-Private Partnerships with the Sindh government. Mr. Wan mentioned that over 12 leading Chinese companies were keen to invest in Karachi, particularly in sectors such as waste-to-energy, wastewater treatment, desalination plants, the manufacturing of electric buses, conversion kits for petrol motorcycles to electric, and the reconstruction of the city’s sewerage system.
The Chief Minister assured that his government would provide all necessary support for the Chinese companies to establish their facilities. Both the CM and the Chairman of the B&R Group agreed to reconvene with the Planning and Development department and the Board of Investment to identify projects and negotiate terms, enabling work to commence.
