BEIJING, Dec. 4  –On November 30, the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) officially opened in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Lasting until December 12, it will be the largest United Nations Climate Change Conference in history, with more than 70,000 people expected to participate.

COP28 will conduct the first global inventory of the implementation of the Paris Agreement and set a course of action to significantly reduce emissions, including reducing the production of fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal, promoting the power generation capacity of renewable energy sources, and increasing investment in climate change related issues.

On the same day, the host country, UAE, announced that all parties participating in the conference agreed to establish a new fund to help less developed countries cope with the impact of climate disasters and the host UAE took the lead in announcing USD100 million for the fund. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, COP28 Chairman, praised the move as a positive momentum for the world and participating countries’ work in Dubai.COP28: Solar pavilion showcasing Chinese climate outcomes

In its Solar+ Pavilion, the only independent photovoltaic-themed pavilion during this conference, jointly launched by the All-China Environment Federation and global leading solar provider LONGi, over 25 series of events will be held, covering diversified topics, for instance, seawater desalination, decarbonization transformation for high-energy-consuming enterprises, energy transition in underdeveloped regions, technological innovation, green electricity, green hydrogen and global cooperation.

Xie Zhenhua, China’s special envoy for climate, pointed out at the COP28 Sustainable Development Dialogue of Well-known Chinese and Foreign Entrepreneurs held on December 1 that the Chinese government is preparing to propose new goals and measures for China’s independent contributions to the 2030 and 2035 Paris Agreement in 2025.

With such a global occasion, LONGi will announce a number of initiatives, including the release of the “green electricity” + “green hydrogen” mode to achieve global carbon neutrality. In addition, LONGi will share cases of how to promote energy equity in developing countries and draw inspiration from groundbreaking solar projects in Saudi Arabia and Qatar to demonstrate the potential of clean energy transformation in the Middle East.

“We hope that by participating in COP28, we can demonstrate the value and impact of photovoltaic technology in jointly pursuing sustainable development practices.” Li Zhenguo, President of LONGi, noted.

The same day, 134 countries have signed COP28 UAE Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Resilient Food Systems, and Climate Action, which aims to address global greenhouse gas emissions while protecting the lives and livelihoods of farmers in areas most affected by climate change. This is also one of the core contents of the COP28 food system agenda. All countries signing the Declaration represent a total of 5.7 billion people, 70 percent of food productivity and 76 percent of greenhouse gas emissions from the global food system.
