Chinese charitable organizations donated 2,000 bicycles and 12,000 school bags from the Panda Pack project to primary schools in Cambodia on Monday.
A ceremony themed “Hearts Connect along the Silk Road” was hosted at Balaing Khang Lech Primary School in Kampong Thom province’s Stung Sen town to mark the occasion.
The bicycles, provided by bike-sharing company Hello Inc., were transported to Cambodia with support from the COSCO Shipping Charity Foundation. The China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD), in collaboration with the Civil Society Alliance Forum (CSAF), distributed the bikes and bags to underprivileged students across 130 schools in nine Cambodian provinces.
Kemreat Viseth, secretary of state at Cambodia’s Council of Ministers and CSAF chairman, commended the Chinese charities for their support in enhancing rural education in Cambodia. He highlighted that since 2018, the CFRD has donated over 5,000 bicycles and 167,534 school bags to students in 22 provinces. This initiative, he noted, not only strengthens Cambodia-China friendship but also motivates students to pursue education.
Im Vanny, deputy director of the Kampong Thom Provincial Department of Education, Youth, and Sports, expressed gratitude for the donations, emphasizing that the bicycles would enable underprivileged students to commute to school more easily.
CFRD representative Zhang Shenyue expressed the organization’s pleasure in aiding rural Cambodian students and hoped the donations would inspire them to excel academically for their families and communities.
Hello Inc. representative Zhang Rong remarked that the bicycles carry both love and hope, symbolizing the shared pursuit of a better future and commitment to public welfare.
