Chinese BYD starts delivering vehicles in Pakistan aiming to fasten the shift towards sustainable transport.
China’s BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), along with Pakistan’s Mega Motor Company (MMC), began delivering vehicles in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad on Friday. According to their official statement, the companies plan to distribute 100 units within the first 48 hours.
This milestone follows the partnership established last year between BYD and MMC to introduce electric vehicles (EVs) in Pakistan, aiming to accelerate the country’s shift toward sustainable transportation.
BYD, a global leader in battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, has been rapidly expanding its presence across Asia, Europe, and Latin America. Meanwhile, Mega Motor, a subsidiary of Pakistan’s Hub Power Company (HUBCO), is leading the local assembly, distribution, and sales of BYD-branded cars.
Lei Jian, BYD’s country head in Pakistan, expressed enthusiasm about this new phase of development in the country. He emphasized BYD’s commitment to enhancing people’s lives through technological advancements, stating that the company’s NEVs and innovative solutions will significantly contribute to Pakistan’s green energy transition.
To enhance customer experience, the companies have introduced BYD Experience and Care Centers in major cities, including Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. The initial launch features models such as SEAL and ATTO 3, with plans to open 15 more centers across the country within the year to improve accessibility.
Danish Khaliq, VP Sales and Strategy at MMC, expressed excitement about the vehicle rollout across Pakistan. He highlighted that this marks the beginning of a transformative journey, introducing world-class NEV technology to promote a cleaner and more sustainable future for the country.
NEVs include alternative-fuel vehicles powered by electric, hybrid, hydrogen, or other non-traditional energy sources, reducing dependence on conventional gasoline or diesel engines.
