The 2025 “No. 1 central document” emphasizes the development of ‘new-quality productive forces’ in agriculture, highlighting the integration of biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and smart farming technologies to drive innovation in the sector.
Recent advancements include the identification of a temperature-sensitive gene in rice by scientists at Huazhong Agricultural University. By deactivating this gene, researchers have developed rice varieties that maintain high yields under heat stress, offering a promising solution to climate-related agricultural challenges.




These efforts are part of a broader 10-year master plan for agricultural development, which outlines key objectives to guarantee national food security, systematically boost agricultural productivity, and substantially increase incomes of farmers by leveraging reform, opening-up, and technological innovation as primary drivers.
