China’s largest carbon fiber high-speed passenger ship, with a 500-passenger capacity, was launched on Monday in Nansha New District of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, as reported by the Science and Technology Daily.
Named Xin Ming Zhu III, the vessel was a collaborative effort by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Guangzhou Shipbuilding Co Ltd and Guangdong Zhongwei Composite Material Co Ltd. It is designated for passenger transport within the waters of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
The ship measures 44.75 meters in length, 11 meters in width, and 3.65 meters in depth, with a draft of 1.4 meters. It has a design cruising speed of 26 knots and can reach a maximum speed of 33 knots when fully loaded. The ship is designed for strong navigability, capable of operating in winds reaching level 8 on the Beaufort scale.
The ship is equipped with lithium battery packs and solar energy storage batteries, making it an eco-friendly vessel.
Constructed entirely with advanced carbon fiber materials, it offers technical benefits such as a lightweight structure, resistance to corrosion, and low noise output. Compared to conventional ships, it also saves fuel and reduces maintenance costs.
Furthermore, the report indicates that the ship’s construction is expected to be completed and delivered by the end of December.
