China’s first domestically-built large cruise ship, the Adora Magic City, commenced its trial voyage on Saturday, with the first commercial journey set for January 1, 2024.
The cruise ship, spanning 323.6 meters and boasting a gross tonnage of 135,500 tonnes, can host up to 5,246 passengers, featuring a total of 2,125 guest rooms, as confirmed by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., the shipbuilder.
The voyage will assess the cruise ship’s operational capabilities, including maritime management, product and service provision, among other factors. The shipbuilder said it has invited industry experts to experience the cruise.
The first trial operation is expected to conclude next Monday, and the second trial will head to Japan and South Korea before its commercial operation begins.
