In 2024, China’s digital reading user base surged to 670 million, reflecting a 17.5% rise compared to the previous year, as outlined in a digital reading report published on Wednesday.
The findings were unveiled during a national reading conference held in Taiyuan, located in north China’s Shanxi Province, which also coincided with the observance of the 30th World Book and Copyright Day.
According to the report, the digital reading sector in China generated 66.14 billion yuan (approximately 9.2 billion USD) in revenue for 2024—an increase of 16.65% from the prior year.
The total count of digital reading materials in the country exceeded 63 million, growing by 6.31% year-on-year. Among these, online literature and e-books comprised 67.55%, while audio content represented 32.45%.
