China vows to cultivate high-quality teachers to strengthen education sector and develop more skilled professionals.
China has committed to enhancing its teaching workforce by developing more skilled and high-quality professionals, a key objective in its goal to become a leading global educational force.
A set of guidelines released on Monday outlines various strategies, including improving teachers’ professional integrity, conduct, and skills, optimizing the allocation of educational resources, and safeguarding teachers’ rights and interests.
The guidelines, issued by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council, envision that by 2035, teaching will be regarded as one of the most respected and esteemed professions in the country.
Particularly, they emphasize zero tolerance for malpractice and violations of regulations involving teachers, calling for strict discipline and legal action against offenders.
The guidelines also highlight the importance of supporting the development of normal schools and enhancing training for rural teachers.
Moreover, there is a strong focus on ensuring timely payment of teachers’ salaries, reducing unnecessary workload, and protecting them from misconduct such as humiliation, defamation, and rumors.
Additionally, the guidelines aim to elevate teachers’ social status, foster public respect for educators, and encourage broader public support for education.
