China, Vietnam hold key meeting on bilateral cooperation as Wang Yi shared willingness to cooperate on strategic and long term plans.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son co-chaired the 16th meeting of the China-Vietnam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation in Beijing on Tuesday.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted that top leaders from both nations have achieved a significant consensus on advancing the China-Vietnam community with a shared future. He noted that the socialist development of both countries has reached a critical juncture.

As the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges approaches next year, Wang expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with Vietnam on strategic and long-term plans to support each country’s modernization efforts.

Wang stressed the importance of maintaining a stable strategic direction, fostering high-level exchanges, and engaging in focused cooperation. He urged both countries to strengthen their security foundation and effectively utilize the “3+3” strategic dialogue mechanism, which covers diplomacy, defense, and public security.

He also called for the establishment of a robust and seamless cross-border industrial and supply chain while encouraging collaboration in emerging sectors. Additionally, Wang emphasized promoting people-to-people ties and increasing flight connections between the two nations.

Wang underlined the need for closer coordination, adherence to multilateralism, effective management of differences, and further progress in maritime cooperation between China and Vietnam.

Bui Thanh Son affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to implementing the consensus reached by their top leaders and leveraging the upcoming 75th diplomatic anniversary as an opportunity to strengthen ties. He stressed the importance of frequent high-level interactions to bolster political trust.

Bui also highlighted Vietnam’s readiness to expand mutually beneficial cooperation with China in areas such as trade, infrastructure, agriculture, culture, and local governance. He underscored the need for enhanced multilateral coordination and constructive management of differences to elevate the Vietnam-China community with a shared future.

On Monday, the two nations held their inaugural “3+3” strategic dialogue, focusing on diplomacy, defense, and public security.

The foreign ministers also attended commemorative events marking the 25th anniversary of the land boundary demarcation and the 15th anniversary of three legal agreements on managing the China-Vietnam land border and related ports.
