John Podesta, the U.S. Senior Advisor to the President for International Climate Policy, will visit China from September 4 to 6 and co-chair the meeting alongside China’s special envoy for climate change, Liu Zhenmin.
The meeting will involve detailed discussions on practical cooperation under the working group’s framework, as well as domestic climate policy actions by both nations and multilateral efforts to combat climate change.
The Working Group on Enhancing Climate Action in the 2020s was launched by China and the United States in January 2024. This initiative was created to implement the agreements reached by the two countries’ leaders during their San Francisco meeting and to bolster cooperation in addressing climate change.
