China has called on the United States to stop the broad and excessive application of the national security concept and to work with the international community to uphold a rules-based multilateral trading system, according to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday.
During a routine press briefing, ministry spokesperson He Yongqian responded to Washington’s decision to increase tariffs on imports of steel, aluminum, and related products from 25 percent to 50 percent.
He criticized the U.S. action, stating it not only inflicts harm on other countries but also damages its own interests, posing a serious threat to the stability of global industrial and supply chains.
He further urged the U.S. to move away from a zero-sum approach and instead resolve mutual concerns through equal dialogue, emphasizing the importance of joint efforts to ensure global supply chain stability.
