China has strongly urged the United States to stop its protectionist and unilateral tactics, criticizing Washington’s continued clampdown on Chinese tech and AI companies. A spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry made the statement on Friday.
This reaction came after the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security recently issued a warning that using Huawei’s Ascend chips might breach U.S. export regulations, further cautioning against utilizing American AI chips to train Chinese artificial intelligence systems.
In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian told reporters that the U.S. was abusing the notion of national security and misusing export controls and extraterritorial jurisdiction to unjustifiably hinder China’s chip and AI sectors. He said these actions undermine fair market competition, disrupt global supply chains, and infringe upon the rights of Chinese companies.
Lin stressed that China strongly opposes such practices and will never accept them. He added that China will take firm steps to defend its development interests and protect the lawful rights of its enterprises.
