Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang on Tuesday emphasized the need to enhance financial cooperation among Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states to accelerate regional development.
During a group meeting with foreign representatives attending the SCO finance ministers and central bank governors’ gathering, Ding, also a senior leader in the Communist Party of China, reaffirmed China’s commitment to regional integration.
He noted that President Xi Jinping had previously proposed important initiatives to build a more prosperous and united SCO community during last year’s “SCO Plus” summit in Astana.
Ding stated that China, currently holding the rotating SCO presidency, is ready to collaborate closely with fellow members to prioritize development, expand local currency settlements, promote digital financial inclusion, and actively pursue the establishment of an SCO development bank.
SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev, speaking on behalf of the foreign delegates, praised China’s leadership and reiterated the organization’s commitment to uphold the “Shanghai Spirit” and foster shared regional progress.
