China will continue collaborating with the global community to uphold the multilateral trade system, with the World Trade Organization (WTO) at its core as Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated on Monday.
Guo emphasized that China remains committed to the promises made during its WTO accession, aiming to foster global trade and investment liberalization, thereby benefiting the world. He made these comments during a press briefing, marking the 30th anniversary of the WTO’s establishment.
He noted that the WTO has provided an open, stable, and predictable institutional framework, ensuring global trade operates smoothly and fostering greater trade and economic cooperation among its members.
The spokesperson added that the WTO has helped developing countries participate in and benefit from economic globalization, contributing significantly to improving global well-being and promoting sustainable development.
Guo highlighted that free trade is a fundamental driver for global economic growth, and its ultimate aim is to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes and promote shared development.
He cautioned that protectionism and the construction of barriers, such as “small yard, high fence” policies, severely disrupt global supply chains and harm the long-term interests of all countries.
