China urges G7 to focus on global cooperation and to stop indulging in geopolitical games.
China has called on the Group of Seven (G7) nations to cease engaging in geopolitical maneuvering, abandon zero-sum mindsets, and actively contribute to global solidarity and cooperation, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Wednesday.
Additionally, Mao stated during a regular press briefing, “China has consistently stated its firm opposition to the G7’s inaccurate and China-related remarks this year,”
Mao emphasized that if the G7 genuinely seeks constructive and stable relations with China to address global challenges, it must base actions on mutual respect, equality, and shared benefits, rather than tarnishing China’s image.
Regarding the Ukraine crisis, Mao affirmed China’s impartial stance, highlighting efforts to promote peace talks. She clarified that China has not provided weapons to any party involved, has strictly controlled exports of dual-use items and civilian UAVs, and opposes their military use.
Mao added that normal economic and trade relations between China and Russia should not face interference or coercion from any third party.
Addressing the “overcapacity” narrative, Mao dismissed it as false, citing evidence to the contrary, and urged relevant nations to adopt an open mindset and ensure fair competition.
On issues such as the East China Sea, South China Sea, Taiwan, Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong, Mao reiterated China’s consistent and clear position.
“We firmly oppose G7 actions that undermine China’s sovereignty or interfere in internal affairs. We urge them to respect the UN Charter and international norms and focus on their own matters,” Mao further explained.
She emphasized that global peace and development face unparalleled challenges and noted that China, as a responsible major nation, is committed to fairness, morality, openness, and inclusivity, benefiting the world through its progress.
Mao reiterated the call for the G7 to move beyond geopolitical games, abandon narrow zero-sum thinking, and contribute meaningfully to international unity and cooperation.
