China is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and has expressed concern over the repeated rise in tensions. The country hopes that a ceasefire can be achieved between Israel and Iran at an early date, according to a statement by a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the comments during a press briefing in response to a question about U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement on Monday that Israel and Iran have formally agreed to a full ceasefire.
Guo emphasized that past experience shows military solutions do not lead to lasting peace, and that dialogue and negotiation are the appropriate ways to resolve conflicts.
He urged the involved parties to return to the path of political resolution as soon as possible, adding that China is ready to cooperate with the international community in efforts to uphold peace and stability in the Middle East.
