China, UK urged to strengthen dialogue and communication as the 10th China-UK Strategic Dialogue was held during Wang Yi’s visit to UK.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need for China and Britain to enhance dialogue and communication during his visit to the UK on Thursday. He co-chaired the 10th China-UK Strategic Dialogue alongside British Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, acknowledged that China and Britain have different political systems, historical backgrounds, and cultures, making disagreements inevitable. However, he stressed the importance of fostering an objective and rational understanding through mutual respect and open communication.
China views Britain as a key strategic partner and is prepared to plan high-level exchanges for the next phase of engagement. Wang highlighted the need to deepen practical cooperation across multiple sectors, aiming to revitalize bilateral relations in the coming year.
As permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and Britain share a responsibility to uphold global stability. Wang emphasized that both nations should support multilateralism, free trade, and peaceful resolutions to international conflicts, working together to promote global peace and stability.
Wang also outlined China’s stance on key issues, including Taiwan and Hong Kong. The two sides held detailed discussions on the Ukraine crisis, during which Wang reiterated China’s adherence to President Xi Jinping’s “four points about what must be done.” He urged restraint, calling for no further expansion of battlefields, no escalation of hostilities, and no provocation of conflict.
China, he said, supports diplomatic efforts for peace and advocates for a balanced, effective, and sustainable security framework in Europe. Wang affirmed that China is willing to collaborate with all relevant parties, including European nations, to contribute constructively toward lasting peace and stability.
