Two new products, the Nusuum Culf, a bracelet and a small semi Filigree Crochet Earrings arrive at United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)’ shop for public benefit.

They are made by Afghan, Syrian and Myanmar refugees, with high artistic and cultural value. The Sales of products will be used to support the Empower Pakistan with Love project, jointly launched by UNHCR and China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF).

“Promoting green development with the UN is the duty of CBCGDF. It is also one of events to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan,” said a senior official of CBCGDF.

The Empower Pakistan with Love project aims to promote the use of clean energy, reduce energy burden and improve peoples’ basic living conditions.

This project is expected to support a total of 35,000 Afghan and Pakistani households during 2021-2023. Household energy saving equipment will be distributed for 20,000 households and the photovoltaic facilities will be built at the community level in 2021.

It will also spend $2 million to set up the wind/ hydro-solar complementary clean energy usage system at communities from mid of 2021 to the end of 2023, which will benefit 15,000 households.
In addition, the empower project will train 500 young refugees to take energy related jobs and offer environmental conservation education for 500 female refugees.
Pakistan has strived to develop renewable energy in recent years. Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan pledged that Pakistan will shift to 60 percent of clean or renewable energy by 2030, while 30 per cent of all vehicles would be transferred to electricity.
Pakistan’s Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) is constructing 10 projects in water and hydropower sectors under the ‘Decade of Dams’ vision which will achieve completion in a phase-wise manner from 2023 to 2029, according to its Chairman Muzammil Hussain.
Under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the two nations have a series of cooperation in clean energy.

For example, Sachal Wind Farm has put into operation since 2017. China’s China Gezhouba Group Company Limited (CGGC) has been awarded several projects in Pakistan, including Dasu hydropower project, Suki Kinari Hydropower Project, Mohmand Dam hydropower project, Azad Pattan Hydropower Project and Balakot Hydropower Project.
Chinese photovoltaic companies also offer advanced technologies and modules to Pakistan.

In addition, China’s JinkoSolar has planned to cooperate with Energy Training and Research Center (ETRC) of Pakistan to train talents so as to help the development of renewable energy and create job opportunities in solar sectors.
China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment once donated solar power equipment including 4000 sets of solar photovoltaic systems and LED lights to the needy families in Gwadar port in April 2020 for supporting their sustainable development.
China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) is a leading nationwide non-profit public foundation, dedicated to biodiversity conservation and green development.

By far, CBCGDF has supported over tens of thousands of individuals and hosted many environmental & conservational events around the country to aware the people, encourage the people, and empower the people.
