China has announced plans to better integrate transportation infrastructure with renewable energy systems, with the goal of making electric vehicles (EVs) the dominant choice for new car sales by 2035, as stated in a new policy circular released on Friday.
In addition, the circular, jointly issued by the Ministry of Transport and nine other agencies, outlines ambitions to deploy new energy heavy-duty trucks on a large scale and to build a comprehensive green fuel supply network for the transportation industry by 2035.
It also emphasizes the importance of utilizing clean energy in areas surrounding transport infrastructure such as railways, highways, and ports, promoting sustainability across the board.
To drive the sector’s green transformation, the government will further encourage the adoption of new energy cars, eco-friendly ships and planes, and push for low-carbon practices within postal and express delivery services.
To support these initiatives, the circular highlights the expansion of financial tools including special local government bonds, green financing options like green loans and bonds, as well as re-lending programs aimed at technological advancement and modernization.
