China has exceeded global expectations by introducing the world’s fastest internet service, boasting a remarkable 1.2 terabits per second data transmission speed. This cutting-edge network, a decade in the making and spanning over 3,000 kilometers of optical fiber linking Beijing, Wuhan, and Guangzhou, has outpaced industry forecasts by two years.
The backbone network, crucial for establishing principal data routes between cities, has set a new standard in internet speed, capable of transmitting data at rates over 10 times faster than existing major routes. This groundbreaking achievement, a collaborative effort involving Huawei, China Mobile, and Tsinghua University, officially launched in July after successfully completing rigorous operational tests.
China’s technological advancement in internet infrastructure has positioned it well ahead of the competition, surpassing the speeds achieved by its nearest rival in the US by three times. The stability and reliability of the 1.2 terabits per second bandwidth mark a significant milestone, propelling China into a leadership role in the realm of next-generation internet services.
