On Wednesday, Chinese Ambassador Li Minggang visited the families of Chinese nationals who lost their lives in the recent earthquake in Vanuatu.
He conveyed condolences to the victims and expressed sympathy to their families, promising that the embassy would provide necessary support during this challenging period. He also stated that the embassy had urged the Vanuatu government and relevant authorities to take swift and effective actions for post-disaster arrangements.
Vanuatu faced a devastating 7.3-magnitude earthquake on December 17, which resulted in at least 14 deaths and over 200 injuries. A subsequent 6.1-magnitude quake on December 22 worsened the damage, causing significant destruction to infrastructure.
China deployed a team of four technical specialists to Vanuatu to aid in recovery efforts following the disaster, as announced by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Monday.
The team’s mission includes conducting scientific evaluations of building structures in heavily affected areas, assessing safety, and investigating secondary disaster risks.
