China starts Olympics 2024 with two gold and one bronze medal.
Chinese athletes concluded the first full day of competition at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics on Saturday by winning two gold medals and one bronze.
Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao secured China’s first gold of Paris 2024 by defeating South Korea’s Keum Ji-hyeon and Park Ha-jun 16-12 in the 10-meter air rifle mixed team shooting final.
Later, Chen Yiwen and Chang Yani dominated the women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard final, scoring 337.68 points to win China’s second gold and extend their Olympic winning streak in the event to six consecutive editions.
The Chinese swimming team won bronze in the women’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay, with Yang Junxuan, Cheng Yujie, Zhang Yufei, and Wu Qingfeng breaking the Asian record at 3:30.3. Australia claimed gold with a new Olympic record of 3:28.92, and the USA took silver with a new American record of 3:30.2.
In the men’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay, Pan Zhanle, Ji Xinjie, Chen Juner, and Wang Haoyu finished fourth. Despite missing the podium, Pan set an Olympic record by completing his leg in 46.92 seconds.
Vivian Kong Man Wai from Hong Kong SAR won her delegation’s first gold by narrowly defeating France’s Auriane Mallo-Breton 13-12 in the women’s fencing epee individual final.
Chinese badminton players Shi Yuqi, He Bingjiao, and the pairs of Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping, Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang, Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan, Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning, and Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong all advanced in their competitions on Saturday.
Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha easily won their first match in the table tennis mixed doubles event, defeating Egypt’s Omar Assar and Dina Meshref 4-0 in just 27 minutes.
Host nation France won their first gold medal by beating Fiji 28-7 in the men’s rugby sevens final.
