Chinese and Russian naval vessels recently conducted their fourth joint maritime patrol in the western and northern Pacific Ocean, according to a statement from the Defense Ministry in Beijing on Sunday.
Beijing states that the patrol was not aimed at any third party and is unrelated to the current international and regional situation.
This patrol is part of the Joint Sea-2024 exercise, which commenced on Friday in the waters and airspace near Zhanjiang in southern China’s Guangdong province. The exercises conducted aim to showcase the determination and capabilities of both nations in addressing maritime security threats and upholding global and regional peace and stability, stated the ministry.
The drill followed the annual military engagement plan and the bilateral agreement between the two – armed forces.
No details were provided on the Pacific maneuvers, including the ships’ routes, their exact locations, or the nature of the forces involved.
On Saturday, the Russian defense ministry announced that two of its warships had docked in Zhanjiang to participate in the joint naval drills, scheduled for the initial phase from Monday to Wednesday.
As China, Russia conduct naval exercises in the Pacific, the maritime strength of China in South China Sea ameliorates.
