China, Russia, and Iran demand an end to all unilateral sanctions after a high level diplomatic meeting was held at Beijing.
China, Russia, and Iran have jointly urged an end to all unlawful unilateral sanctions following a high-level diplomatic meeting in Beijing on Friday, where officials discussed Tehran’s nuclear issue.
The talks were chaired by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, alongside Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov Sergey Alexeevich and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi.
During the discussions, Ma emphasized the need to address the root causes of the current crisis while rejecting both economic sanctions and military threats. He reiterated that diplomatic efforts should be prioritized to ease tensions.
The three countries underscored the significance of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231, which upholds the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and major global powers. They urged all involved parties to refrain from actions that could further escalate tensions and instead focus on fostering a diplomatic resolution.
Ma reaffirmed China’s commitment to maintaining a neutral and objective stance, promoting peace and dialogue, and contributing constructively to achieving a political solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), signed in 2015, required Iran to limit its nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief. However, the U.S. withdrew from the agreement under Trump’s administration in May 2018, reinstating sanctions that led Iran to scale back its commitments.
