China reveals top 10 Sci-Tech achievements of 2024 featuring many notable achievements.
On Wednesday, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) revealed the world’s top 10 sci-tech achievements for 2024. Notable highlights include the 3D-printing of functional human brain tissue, a bilingual brain-reading device, and stem cell therapy aimed at restoring human vision.
Wang Chen, Vice-President of CAE, presented the list of top achievements at a press conference in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province in East China. The selections were made by CAS and CAE academicians, who hold the highest national academic titles in science and engineering.
Among the top 10 achievements are the 3D-printing of functional human brain tissue, Willow; Google’s new quantum chip that reached a key accuracy milestone, and the Euclid Space Telescope, which captured the first image of the “cosmic atlas.”
Other notable achievements on the list include the largest brain gene regulatory network atlas, an ultra-precise 3D atlas of cancer cells, the first bilingual brain-reading device designed to help aphasic individuals “speak” again, and the successful fifth test flight of SpaceX’s Starship, which included the recovery of its first-stage rocket.
Also featured are the world’s first stem cell therapy to restore human vision, the first live human transplant of a pig kidney, and the successful trial of a long-acting HIV preventive injection.
This year’s announcement marks the 31st edition of the annual event, which aims to promote public understanding of science and technology.
At the same press conference, China’s top 10 sci-tech achievements for 2024 were also announced.
