China reaffirms UN support, backs multilateralism during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s strong support for the United Nations and its commitment to continued close collaboration with the global organization.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made these remarks during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres after presiding over a high-level UN Security Council meeting.
Highlighting the growing geopolitical tensions and shifting global dynamics, Wang stressed that as international instability increases, it becomes even more essential to uphold the UN’s authority and role in global affairs.
He reiterated China’s dedication to strengthening the UN’s central position and deepening cooperation to uphold true multilateralism while advancing global peace and development.
Guterres, in response, acknowledged China’s significant role in global governance and expressed strong support for the three major global initiatives introduced by President Xi Jinping. He urged all nations to enhance cooperation in addressing global challenges and fostering peace and sustainable development.
