The China Pavilion at COP29 was officially opened on Monday in Baku, Azerbaijan. The pavilion will feature 10 themed days, showcasing a variety of side activities throughout the COP29 event, which is scheduled to run from November 11 to 22.
At the opening side event, Zhao Yingmin, head of the Chinese delegation to COP29 and vice minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, highlighted China’s significant role in global ecological progress. He emphasized China’s position as a key participant, contributor, and leader in advancing ecological civilization.
Moreover, Zhao expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with the international community to strengthen political trust, practice multilateralism, foster global cooperation, and contribute to building a prosperous, clean, and beautiful world.
Liu Zhenmin, China’s special envoy for climate change, stated that addressing climate change is a top national priority for China and a key part of the country’s low-carbon development strategy aimed at building a beautiful China.
Liu noted that China’s efforts in promoting green and low-carbon development have yielded significant results and global recognition. He also expressed hope that COP29 would boost global confidence and emphasized the importance of upholding common but differentiated responsibilities and enforcing legal agreements.
Liu also urged developed nations to meet their financial commitments to assist developing countries in addressing climate challenges. He further affirmed China’s readiness to work with the international community to support multilateralism, ensure fairness in climate governance, respect trade freedom, and contribute to the success of COP29, strengthening global climate governance stability.
