China and Pakistan, as long-standing strategic partners, are committed to aligning their development strategies more closely, stated Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday.
During a meeting with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Wang emphasized the importance of the UN’s 80th anniversary as an opportunity to revisit its founding principles, strengthen multilateralism, and enhance global governance.
Amid current global challenges related to peace, development, security, and governance, China has proposed a high-level UN Security Council meeting focused on reforming global governance and promoting multilateralism. Wang expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with Pakistan and the international community to drive meaningful outcomes from the meeting and establish a fairer global governance framework.
Reaffirming the deep-rooted trust and support between China and Pakistan, Wang highlighted that the recent meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari had further solidified their nations’ strong friendship. He reiterated that China prioritizes its relationship with Pakistan and will continue to advocate for Pakistan on international platforms.
Wang further stated that China aims to align its development initiatives with Pakistan, particularly in modernizing agriculture and advancing industrialization, to enhance Pakistan’s self-reliance. He also urged Pakistan to implement robust security measures to protect Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions operating within the country.
In response, Dar emphasized that President Zardari’s recent visit to China was highly successful, elevating the Pakistan-China strategic partnership and fostering rapid progress across multiple areas of cooperation. He praised China’s remarkable modernization achievements and expressed Pakistan’s commitment to furthering high-level engagements and developmental collaboration with China.
Dar also extended his best wishes for the success of China’s upcoming “Two Sessions” political meetings. Reaffirming Pakistan’s dedication to ensuring the safety of Chinese personnel and projects, he acknowledged China’s global leadership and pledged continued cooperation and mutual support on international matters.
