China will launch a month-long online shopping event for festive goods to celebrate the upcoming Spring Festival, which falls on January 29 this year.
Organized by the Ministry of Commerce and guided by several government departments and the China Consumers Association, the event will run from January 7 to February 5.
This is the first nationwide online sales promotion following the inclusion of “Spring Festival, social practices of the Chinese people in celebration of traditional new year” on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2024.
The event aims to fulfill consumer needs during the festive season, promote traditional Chinese culture, and enhance e-commerce sales.
A launch ceremony will take place on January 7 in Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province, featuring activities like festive goods displays and exhibitions showcasing intangible cultural heritage.
Regions across China and e-commerce platforms will host unique Spring Festival-themed events, including local product promotions, exhibitions, and cultural performances, as per the ministry.
Shanghai, for example, will hold a Silk Road e-commerce Spring Festival event starting January 22 to promote tourism products for international visitors during the festival.
Festive goods will also be made available on global e-commerce platforms to cater to the needs of overseas Chinese and international customers.
