China, LAC prepare for 4th CELAC Forum Meeting as both actors are major contributors to global governance and have been key in driving unity and peace.
China and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) are making active progress in organizing the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, according to a spokesperson from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.
Spokesperson Lin Jian, addressing a question at a daily press briefing, emphasized that Latin America and the Caribbean are crucial members of the Global South and key contributors to international governance. He noted that CELAC serves as a vital platform for regional unity and cooperation in tackling global challenges.
Lin highlighted that the first ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC Forum took place in Beijing in January 2015, officially initiating the forum’s operations.
In the past ten years, the forum has evolved with increasingly well-developed mechanisms and has emerged as a central avenue for strengthening political trust, aligning development agendas, and deepening people-to-people exchanges between China and LAC nations, Lin said.
The forum has been instrumental in advancing China-LAC ties to a new level characterized by equality, mutual gains, innovation, openness, and benefits for the populace, he added.
Amid rapid global changes and increasing uncertainty and instability, Lin stated that the upcoming fourth ministerial meeting would offer a chance for both sides to explore development strategies, collaborate on shared challenges, enhance the collective voice of the Global South, and contribute to global stability and unity.
