China-India WMCC meeting advances border peace talks as both sides agreed to maintain communication through both diplomatic and military channels.
China and India convened the 32nd meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on China-India Border Affairs (WMCC) on Thursday in New Delhi. During the discussions, both sides agreed to maintain communication through diplomatic and military channels to ensure lasting peace and stability in the border areas, as stated in a release by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Friday.
The meeting was co-chaired by Hong Liang, Director-General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, and Shri Gourangalal Das, Joint Secretary (East Asia). Representatives from the foreign affairs, defense, interior, and immigration departments of both nations also attended.
Both parties positively evaluated the progress made on resolving border-related issues and agreed to implement these solutions comprehensively and effectively. Measures to further ease tensions in the border areas were discussed, aligning with the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries. Preparations for the next round of special representatives’ talks on the China-India border issue were also a key focus of the meeting.
Additionally, the two sides reaffirmed the importance of utilizing the border negotiation mechanism, maintaining consistent communication through diplomatic and military channels, and continuing efforts to uphold sustainable peace and stability in the border regions.
