China and India agreed to resume direct flights between the Chinese mainland and India, according to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.
During a meeting held in Beijing between Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and Indian Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri, both sides discussed implementing agreements reached between their leaders and explored ways to enhance China-India relations.
They agreed on several measures, including India’s commitment to supporting China’s presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and actively participating in related events. Both nations plan to enhance political trust through bilateral and multilateral engagements and will celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2025 with cultural exchanges and think tank discussions.
They also decided to resume direct flights, facilitate personnel exchanges, and allow mutual dispatch of journalists. The resumption of Indian pilgrimages to China’s sacred mountain and lake in Xizang will be negotiated for 2025, while cooperation on cross-border rivers will continue with plans for expert-level meetings.
China emphasized a strategic and long-term approach to relations, encouraging dialogue, practical cooperation, and fostering mutual trust while addressing differences constructively. Both sides exchanged candid views on their respective concerns.
