China organized 671 marathons and road running events in 2024, with a total of 6.56 million participants, according to official data released on Friday.
Wang Xiaoying, the treasurer of the Chinese Athletics Association, reported that the events took place across 31 provincial-level regions, 261 cities, and 537 districts and counties.
Wang emphasized that as China’s marathon events continue to grow, sustainability has become a key focus for ensuring their high-quality development.
The Chinese Athletics Association urges organizers to incorporate sustainable development practices into all marathons, helping the events to become prominent symbols of each city.
