China Hosts 3rd China-Indian Ocean Forum on Blue Economy Development for strengthening cooperation in maritime development.
The Third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation took place in Kunming, Southwest China, bringing together over 300 representatives from more than 50 countries and international organizations. Themed “Future of the Blue Indian Ocean — Development Practice of the Global South,” the forum focused on strengthening cooperation in maritime development and advancing sustainable ocean-based economies.
Wang Yong, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, emphasized China’s commitment to building a maritime community with a shared future. He highlighted how this initiative has evolved from a Chinese proposal into a collective international aspiration through active participation from Indian Ocean countries and global partners.
China pledged to deepen practical cooperation by fostering dialogue, enhancing marine cultural exchanges, and promoting consensus on sustainable maritime development. The forum underscored the importance of international collaboration in driving the blue economy, ensuring ecological balance, and boosting economic resilience in the region.
