China is advancing preparations for its rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in 2025, according to Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Thursday.
The country plans to host an SCO summit that emphasizes friendship, unity, and tangible outcomes, alongside over 40 institutional meetings, Mao said.
This year’s agenda includes events on topics such as political parties, poverty alleviation, sustainable development, and cultural exchanges, as well as an investment and trade expo, a film festival, and various art activities, she added.
On Thursday, China revealed the emblem for its 2024-2025 SCO presidency. The design incorporates Chinese cultural elements like bronzeware patterns and features the slogan “Upholding the Shanghai Spirit: SCO on the Move” in Chinese, Russian, and English.
Mao emphasized that during its presidency, China will take concrete steps to enhance cooperation in areas such as politics, security, economics, and culture, strengthen SCO’s functioning, foster an SCO community with a shared future, and explore new opportunities for mutually beneficial development.
