This week, China establishes world’s first 6G Test Network, the next generation of wireless technology after 5G. A group of researchers from the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications unveiled this first field test network.
The world’s first field test network for intelligent integration and 6G communication has been developed by a group of telecom reseachers from China.
Semantic communication can achieve 6G transmission capacities on existing 4G infrastructure, as the experimental network has shown.
Furthermore, a group from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications presented their findings at a conference on Wednesday, stating that the network has remarkably improved by tenfold in critical communication metrics, such as capacity, coverage, and efficiency.
The network functions as a platform to support efforts of research institutes in theoretical studies and preliminary validation of major 6G technologies. The team believes that it can significantly reduce the entry threshold for 6G research, opening it up to greater innovation.
The Head of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Jin Zhuanglong, recently declared 6G, along with new technologies like brain-computer interfaces, quantum computing, and humanoid robotics, as key areas of national priority.
While 6G standards are projected to be established in 2025, China aims to commercialize 6G, the next generation of wireless technology, by around 2030.
