China-Cambodia Cultural Corridor Boosts Regional Tourism

August 6 – China-Cambodia Cultural Corridor boosts regional tourism at the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport in northwest Cambodia.

The China-Cambodia Cultural Corridor was inaugurated on Tuesday at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport in northwest Cambodia, aiming to boost regional tourism.

With the theme “World Heritage Face to Face, Civilization Mutual Learning Hand in Hand,” the corridor seeks to enhance cultural diversity and heritage between the two countries during the 2024 China-Cambodia people-to-people exchange year.

The launch event at the airport’s international passenger departure terminal featured around 100 exquisite pictures of China, Cambodia, and other Lancang-Mekong countries. The display focused on “embroidery,” “carving,” and “color,” showcasing the intangible cultural heritage of southwest China’s Yunnan province and Cambodia.

World Heritage Tour Plan

At the event, the World Heritage Tour Plan, themed “See 10 World Heritage Sites in 10 Days,” was also introduced.

Chhean Leang, secretary of state at Cambodia’s Ministry of Information, hailed the corridor as a milestone in cultural exchanges between the two countries, guiding global tourists to the unique cultural heritage of Cambodia, China, and other Lancang-Mekong nations through exhibitions of world heritage sites and intangible cultural heritage.

Leang also emphasized that these tourist routes would connect world heritage sites across six Lancang-Mekong countries, injecting new momentum into regional tourism development. He warmly welcomed tourists worldwide to experience Cambodia’s charm.

Visit Siem Reap 2024

Ngov Sengkak, deputy governor of Siem Reap province, stated that the corridor aligns with the “Visit Siem Reap 2024” campaign, expressing confidence in its positive contribution to the province’s tourism development. Furthermore, he highlighted the corridor as a testament to the enduring friendship between Cambodia and China, bridging their peoples.

Sengkak also noted that the corridor would help tourists gain better insights into the ancient cultural properties of Cambodia and China, potentially increasing tourist numbers to Siem Reap province.

Wang Jianghong, deputy head of Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, mentioned that the corridor’s inauguration followed the launch of the China (Yunnan)-Cambodia Cultural Series on “Visiting Yunnan and Angkor” Heritage Sites in June, aimed at promoting historical travel and cultural heritage in Yunnan and Cambodia.

Wang further expressed hope that the event would foster cultural and tourism cooperation between Yunnan and Cambodia, innovate tourism products and services, and create a new model of cross-border tourism cooperation.

Intangible cultural heritage inheritors and artists from China and Cambodia performed at the event, attracting many participants and audiences.

Adding to it, the airport, featuring a 3,600-meter-long runway, is currently Cambodia’s largest and serves as the main gateway to the UNESCO-listed Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap province.
