China has expressed its hope that all parties involved in the Ukraine crisis will engage in dialogue and negotiations to establish a sustainable and long-term peace plan that considers their respective concerns, a spokesperson stated on Wednesday.
During a routine press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning commented on Ukraine’s willingness to accept a U.S. proposal for an “immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire” after discussions with a U.S. delegation in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Mao emphasized that since the beginning of the Ukraine crisis, China has consistently supported a political resolution through dialogue and negotiation, actively working to promote peace.
Following extended consultations between senior officials from the U.S. and Ukraine, a joint statement confirmed that the truce could be extended if both sides agree. It also highlighted that “the United States will communicate to Russia that Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace.”
