China backs UN role in global security governance and elaborates that China will support necessary reforms for the system.
Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun emphasized the vital role of UN peacekeeping operations during a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in Berlin, reaffirming China’s firm backing of the UN’s central position in global security governance.
Dong stated that over its 80-year history, the UN has played a key role in promoting justice and fairness internationally. He noted that as global dynamics grow more complex, the UN’s influence should be enhanced rather than diminished, especially in maintaining global peace through peacekeeping missions.
He further mentioned that China will soon unveil new commitments to UN peacekeeping, support necessary reforms within the system, and continue to serve as a reliable and constructive contributor to peacekeeping operations.
Secretary-General Guterres expressed gratitude for China’s consistent support for the UN, recognizing China as a vital force in sustaining multilateralism now and in the future.
Guterres also praised China’s three major global initiatives and affirmed the UN’s commitment to deepen collaboration with China, while opposing unilateral actions rooted in power politics.
He acknowledged China’s growing influence in peacekeeping and expressed hope for strengthened cooperation between China and the UN in this field.
