The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) strongly opposed the U.S. decision on Friday to impose a 25 percent tariff on imported automobiles and certain auto parts.
Labeling the U.S. action as a “blatant act of unilateralism,” CAAM argued that it violates World Trade Organization regulations and disrupts established trade flows. The association urged the U.S. to reverse its unjust decision.
The CAAM highlighted that the auto industry is highly globalized, warning that the U.S. decision would destabilize international automotive supply chains. It also noted that this would lead to higher vehicle prices, putting additional financial pressure on consumers and obstructing global economic recovery.
The association further called on the U.S. government to address the concerns of the automotive industry, advocating for an open, inclusive, and cooperative approach to international trade. The CAAM emphasized the need to preserve the prosperity and stability of the global automotive sector.
