China and Africa have made significant progress in their diplomatic and economic partnerships, achieving notable success through strengthened collaboration on global and regional matters, according to officials from both the Chinese and African Union (AU) sides.
The remarks were made on Monday during a celebration at the new Chinese Mission to the AU compound in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where a gala was held to mark the Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival.
This year, the Spring Festival falls on January 29, welcoming the Year of the Snake as per the Chinese lunar calendar.
Hu Changchun, head of the Chinese Mission to the AU, highlighted that the relationship between China and Africa has evolved into an all-weather partnership with a shared future for a new era.
“Regardless of changes in global and regional dynamics, China remains Africa’s most dependable friend, trusted development partner, and strongest advocate on the international stage,” Hu stated.
Hu emphasized China’s commitment to working with African partners to implement the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit, advance the “10 partnership actions,” and jointly pursue the path to modernization.
Monique Nsanzabaganwa, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, praised the progress made in AU-China cooperation over the years and acknowledged China’s 35-year tradition of prioritizing Africa during its foreign minister’s annual first overseas visit.
She emphasized that political trust between the AU and China has grown steadily, with both sides collaborating closely on global and regional issues. She also expressed gratitude for China’s unwavering support in Africa’s fight against colonialism, power politics, and racial discrimination.
Nsanzabaganwa noted that 2025 marks the beginning of implementing the outcomes of the 2024 FOCAC Beijing Summit. The AU is dedicated to aligning its development strategies with China’s and creating a model for international collaboration.
The event on Monday, attended by representatives from the AU and the Chinese community in Addis Ababa, featured a variety of cultural experiences, including Chinese cuisine and traditional performances from both China and Africa.
